Gardening News
Our new raised beds
With the aid of a volunteer, the school has recently extended its raised bed garden by creating 6 new beds in the grassed area near the no-mow. The main purpose of which is to teach years 4, 5 & 6 the basics of garden management and the growing of edible crops. Year 3 will also learn this but in the schools internal garden area.
All vegetables and flowers have been grown from seed by the children themselves and with the aid of a grant purchased a mini greenhouse.
Enthusiastically the children have transferred soil into the new beds and recently planted out seedlings.
Crops include sweetcorn, kale, courgettes, butternut squash, sweet peas, geraniums and sunflowers.
Harvesting is scheduled for September when the children return to school after the Summer holidays.
